ABSTRACT

In 2021, the airline industry was affected by COVID-19, and many airlines suffered losses. The main reason for the loss were the decline in revenue and the surge in costs. Therefore, in terms of creating the competitive advantage of airlines, "price war" is no longer applicable, and improving service quality has become an effective means. Customer satisfaction is the most effective indicator to measure service quality. In this study, a satisfaction evaluation system is established based on structural equation model and customer satisfaction importance matrix. Then, a questionnaire is designed to analyze the influence of different factors on customer satisfaction. The research finds that brand image and perceived quality have a great impact on customer satisfaction. In addition, some suggestions for airlines to improve customer satisfaction are given. © 2023 SPIE.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study is to explore the preference of corporations for sponsorship motives and the impact of sponsorship motives on sponsoring intention in the post-epidemic era of COVID-19. Taking a Taiwanese company as a case study, a total of 60 expert groups comprising 300 respondents (the management of the sampled companies) were surveyed in the post-epidemic period, with data being collected from 60 sampled companies in February-May 2022. Data were analyzed by using two different functional approaches, including fuzzy preference relations (FPR) for the first survey (study 1) and structural equation model (SEM) for the second survey (study 2). Results reveal that corporate image is the most preferential motive of sponsorship and also demonstrates the most significant and positive influence on sponsoring intention. Meanwhile, the measured factor of performing corporate social responsibility (CSR) appears the most correlated with the construct of corporate image. Based on the results, the study can fully fill the gap between sponsorship motives and sponsoring intention in sponsorship knowledge. Additionally, the conjunction of FPR and SEM can also create methodological synergies, namely, enhancing complementary effects and achieving better holistic analysis. Findings also suggest that special attention should be paid to CSR, which plays a pivotal role in affecting the decision of corporations for sponsorship motives and sponsoring intention and, in a post-epidemic era, continuing to develop CSR actions to enhance corporate image can be the best strategy while facing internal and external challenges of implementing sustainable development (SD).

ABSTRACT

The virtuality of organizational teams have gained interest and popularity in recent years, and have become more prevalent amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Organizational productivity and team relationship-building may suffer certain pitfalls in virtual communication and support without the understanding of the dynamics of short-term, project-based virtual teams. The manuscript aimed to expand what is currently known about short-term virtual team dynamics related to types of effective leadership behaviors. The present study employed a mixed method approach to understanding the dynamics of these teams at both the individual and team level. Small teams were formed and instructed to collaborate on a virtual survival task. Team-related outcomes were measured at the individual level, such as team coordination, team support, and team success. Additionally, distinct latent profiles of leadership behaviors were developed and analyzed at the team level. Team support, more so than team coordination, significantly predicted team success at the individual level, with instrumental support having the strongest effect. Distinct leadership behaviors emerged in teams and were classified through a latent profile analysis, but none of the profiles were significantly related to team performance scores. Demonstrating instrumental support in short-term virtual teams may improve team success. It is important to understand that distinct leadership behaviors exist and future research should explore the impact of these leadership behaviors on other team-related outcomes. © 2023 by the authors.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this paper is to capture the direct and indirect effects of COVID-19 emerging risks on construction projects' success in developing countries from the contractors' perspective. To achieve this, we collected data from Iraqi construction industry and conducted the following multistage research methodology: (1) preliminary investigation with four construction contractors to identify the success indicators of construction projects;(2) focus group session with 11 experts to identify the COVID-19 emerging risks for the construction industry;(3) semistructured interviews with seven construction experts to develop several hypotheses on the effect of COVID-19 emerging risks on project success;(4) survey data collection from 99 construction contractors;and (5) development of a structural equation model (SEM) to analyze the effects of COVID-19 emerging risks on project success. The results of the SEM analysis show that financial market (FM)-related risks, supply chain operations (SCO)-related risks, health and safety of construction workforce (HSCW)-related risks, organizational implications (OI)-related risks, and contractual implications (CI)-related risks have a significant impact on construction projects success. CI-related risks have the strongest total effects on project success, followed by OI-related risks, FM-related risks, HSCW-related risks, and SCO-related risks, respectively. The results also emphasis the significant mediation role of CI between COVID-19 emerging risks and project success. This study contributes to the body of knowledge and contracting companies by helping researchers and construction contractors to better understand how the key risk factors emerging from extreme conditions like the COVID-19 pandemic affect construction projects' success and may serve as a guideline for developing effective response strategies. © 2023 American Society of Civil Engineers.

ABSTRACT

Objectives: Understand whether and how the COVID-19 pandemic affects the risk of different types of conflict worldwide in the context of climate change. Methodology: Based on the database of armed conflict, COVID-19, detailed climate, and non-climate data covering the period 2020-2021, we applied Structural Equation Modeling specifically to reorganize the links between climate, COVID-19, and conflict risk. Moreover, we used the Boosted Regression Tree method to simulate conflict risk under the influence of multiple factors. Findings: The transmission risk of COVID-19 seems to decrease as the temperature rises. Additionally, COVID-19 has a substantial worldwide impact on conflict risk, albeit regional and conflict risk variations exist. Moreover, when testing a one-month lagged effect, we find consistency across regions, indicating a positive influence of COVID-19 on demonstrations (protests and riots) and a negative relationship with non-state and violent conflict risk. Conclusion: COVID-19 has a complex effect on conflict risk worldwide under climate change. Implications: Laying the theoretical foundation of how COVID-19 affects conflict risk and providing some inspiration for the implementation of relevant policies.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The COVID-19 pandemic has brought significant distress on not only the physical health but also mental health of individuals. The present study investigated the direct and indirect effects from COVID-19 distress to suicidality via psychosocial and financial well-being among young people. METHODS: This cross-sectional survey recruited 1472 Hong Kong young people via random sampling in 2021. The respondents completed a phone survey on COVID-19 distress, the four-item Patient Health Questionnaire and items on social well-being, financial well-being, and suicidality. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was conducted to examine the direct and indirect effects of COVID-19 distress on suicidality via psychosocial and financial well-being. RESULTS: The direct effect of COVID-19 distress on suicidality was not significant (ß = 0.022, 95% CI - 0.097-0.156). The total indirect effect from COVID-19 distress to suicidality was significant and positive (αßγ = 0.150, 95% CI = 0.085-0.245) and accounted for 87% of the total effect (B = 0.172, 95% CI = 0.043-0.341). There were significant specific indirect effects via social well-being and psychological distress, and financial well-being and psychological distress. CONCLUSION: The present findings support different pathways from COVID-19 distress to suicidality via functioning in different domains among young people in Hong Kong. Measures are needed to ameliorate the impact on their social and financial well-being to reduce their psychological distress and suicidality.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Since COVID-19, medical resources have been tight, making it inconvenient to go offline for the sequelae of diseases such as post-stroke depression (PSD) that require long-term follow-up. As a new digital therapy, VRTL began to gain popularity. Method: The research is divided into two parts: pre-test and post-test. In the pre-test, an evaluation method integrating reality-based interaction (RBI), structural equation model (SEM), analytic hierarchy process (AHP), and entropy weight method is proposed. In the post-test the patients' physiological indicators (Diastolic blood pressure, systolic blood pressure and heart rate) are measured to verify the effectiveness of RBI-SEM model using T-test method. Results: In the pre-test, using SEM, it was confirmed that Pi physical awareness, Bi body awareness, Ei environmental awareness, and Si social awareness were significantly correlated and positively affected VRTL satisfaction (p >> F 0.217; B >> F 0.130; E >> F 0.243; S >> F 0.122). The comprehensive weight ranking based on RBI-SEM considered light environment (0.665), vegetation diversity (0.667), accessible roaming space (0.550) et al. relatively of importance. And T-tset in the post-test experiment considered that the data of the two measurements before and after the VRTL experience, systolic blood pressure (p < 0.01), diastolic blood pressure (p < 0.01), and blood pressure (p < 0.01) were significantly decreased; one-way ANOVA concluded that there was no significant difference in the changes of blood pressure and heart rate among participants of different ages and genders (p > 0.01). Conclusion: This research validated the effectiveness of RBI theory for VRTL design guidelines, established an RBI-SEM based VRTL evaluation model, and the output VRTL for PSD in the older adults was confirmed to have significant therapeutic benefits. This lays the foundation for designers to decompose design tasks and integrate VRTL into traditional clinical treatment systems. ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate the structural modeling of the mediating role of perceived stress in the relationship between neuroticism and death anxiety among 25-50-year-old women during coronavirus infection. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The present correlational study was conducted with the presence of 130 people (women) using the available sampling method in Isfahan. The Perceived Stress Scale, BFI Five Factor Scale and Death Anxiety Scale were used to measure the research variables. Data analysis was performed using structural equation modeling, and also SPSS version 23 and Smart PLS3 statistical. RESULT: Findings show that the indirect coefficient of neuroticism on death anxiety mediated by perceived stress in the model was significant (P < 0.05) although the mediation rate was partial. Also, in modeling structural equations, the direct effect of perceived stress on death anxiety (0.195), neuroticism on perceived stress (0.305), neuroticism on death anxiety (0.407) were achieved significantly (05/0p). CONCLUSIONS: Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that with increase of neuroticism, death anxiety increases in women and with the entry of perceived stress in this regard and increasing this variable in women, the effect of neuroticism on death anxiety increases. Paying attention to this mechanism can be useful in formulating effective preventive and therapeutic interventions for women to reduce the effects of neuroticism and death anxiety.

ABSTRACT

The progress of educational technology and the demand of home learning under COVID‐19 have promoted the rapid development of online learning all over the world. The existing research focuses on offline learning or online learning but seldom discusses their switching process. This paper uses the questionnaire method and structural equation model to analyze the influencing factors of switching intention and behavior from offline learning to online learning. The results show that the switching intention is significantly affected by perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and computer self‐efficacy, and negatively affected by the perceived risk. The switching intention makes a significant positive effect on switching behavior. When the learner's offline learning relationship inertia and satisfaction are higher, the relationship between switching intention and switching behavior will be weakened. At the end of the paper, some suggestions are put forward for reference for the related parties of online learning.

ABSTRACT

[Background] Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic, staff of the centers for disease control and prevention (CDC) have been burdened with heavy epidemic prevention control, and excessive occupational stress can cause depression and other psychological problems. [Objective] To explore the status of occupational stress, resilience, and depression of CDC staff and potential relationships between them. [Methods] From December 2020 to April 2021, a survey was conducted at provincial and municipal levels, and the stratified cluster sampling method was used at county (district) level to select a total of 3 514 samples. Their occupational stress, resilience, and depression status were evaluated using the Chinese Effort-Reward Imbalance Scale (ERI), the Chinese Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), and the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9). Independent sample t test, analysis of variance, chi2 test, Pearson correlation analysis, and mediation test (structural equation model) were conducted. [Results] The positive rate of occupational stress was 34.29% in the CDC staff, the resilience score was 66.28+/-15.32, and the positive rate of depression was 48.58%. Significant differences were found in the positive rates of occupational stress among different groups of gender, age, education background, marital status, administrative duty, weekly exercise frequency, chronic disease prevalence, and participation in epidemic control (P < 0.05);in the resilience scores among different groups of gender, age, administrative duty, weekly exercise frequency, chronic disease prevalence, and participation in epidemic control (P < 0.05);in the positive rates of depression among different groups of gender, age, educational background, personal monthly income, weekly exercise frequency, chronic disease prevalence, and participation in epidemic control (P < 0.05). Occupational stress was negatively correlated with resilience (r=-0.165, P < 0.01). Resilience was negatively correlated with depression (r=-0.383, P < 0.01). Occupational stress was positively correlated with depression (r=0.343, P < 0.01). The structural equation embracing a partial mediating effect of resilience on the relationship occupational stress and depression was established, and the partial mediating effect was 0.039, accounting for 10.46% of the total effect. [Conclusion] High positive rates of occupational stress, reduced resilience, and depression are shown among CDC staff in the context of the COVID-19 epidemic, and resilience partially mediates the effect of occupational stress on depression. BACKGROUND: The wide proliferation of Covid-19 has impacted billions of people all over the world. This catastrophic pandemic outbreak and ostracism at work have posed challenges for all healthcare professionals, especially for nurses, and have led to a significant increase in the workload, several physical and mental problems, and a change in behavior that is more negative and counterproductive. Therefore, leadership behaviors that are moral in nature serve as a trigger and lessen the adverse workplace effects on nurses' conduct. AIM: this research is directed to explore the impact of post-COVID-19 workplace ostracism on nurses' counterproductive behavior and examine the role of moral leadership as a mediating factor in post-COVID-19 workplace ostracism and nurses' counterproductive behavior. ETHICAL CONSIDERATION: Ethical review and approval Was received from Ethical Committee at the Faculty of Nursing, Alexandria University, Egypt. METHODS: A cross-sectional and correlation study was implemented in all units of medical, surgical, critical and intensive care units by using three tools; moral leadership questionnaire, Workplace Ostracism Instrument (WOS), and Counterproductive Work Behaviors Questionnaire (CWBs). A convenient sample of 340 from 699 bedside nurses was granted. RESULTS: This study revealed that nurses' perceived moderate mean percent (55.49 ± 3.46) of overall workplace ostracism and counterproductive behavior (74.69 ± 6.15). However, they perceived a low mean percentage of moral leadership. There was a significant positive correlation between workplace ostracism and counterproductive behavior. Otherwise, a significant negative correlation was found between moral leadership, workplace ostracism and counterproductive behavior. Also, this study proved the mediating effect of moral leadership in decreasing workplace ostracism by 79.3% and counterproductive behavior by 36.7%. CONCLUSION: Hospital administrators need to be aware of the significance of moral leadership and apply integrity in the clinical setting to reduce the drawback of isolation on nurses' conduct and increase value for the organization as a whole and nurses in particular.

ABSTRACT

Improving rural households' subjective well-being is an important element of economic and social revitalization in the post-epidemic period. Based on the survey data obtained from rural households in Hubei Province, the center of the outbreak in China, and its surrounding areas, this paper explores the impact mechanisms of the COVID-19 epidemic on subjective well-being from both economic and sociological perspectives with the help of structural equation modeling. The results show that COVID-19 significantly influenced rural households' subjective well-being in China. Furthermore, COVID-19 indirectly affected their subjective well-being by influencing optimism. The negative impact is moderated by government intervention and income resilience. Therefore, strengthening the emergency management capacity of local governments and encouraging the diversification of rural households' income sources are important strategies to effectively resolve epidemic shocks and improve the level of well-being.

The consequences of ageing populations around the globe have necessitated policy changes that encourage people to stay in the labour force longer. Finding a job depends on two conditions: the willingness to work and employers' decisions. However, the COVID‐19 pandemic created special circumstances that negatively affected the perception of older workers. Older people were particularly vulnerable to the disease, which justified government action to protect them but at the same time provoked resentment among young people. We conducted an online questionnaire survey in July and August 2020 among the citizens of Hungary, Tunisia and Uzbekistan. Our research aimed to determine the general extent of ageism during the COVID pandemic. Respondents had to possess at least a college degree â€" i.e. be potentially suitable for the position of human resource manager. Despite the wealth of scientific literature and our own experience, the survey results revealed only low levels of ageism because of so‐called social desirability bias. Even so, the participants' responses reflected the characteristics of ageism in relation to their respective countries and living conditions. The small variations in the answers were also enough to provide useful information. Structural equation modelling was used to obtain results.Alternate :Las consecuencias del envejecimiento de la población en todo el mundo han hecho necesarios los cambios políticos que animan a las personas a permanecer más tiempo en la población activa. Encontrar un empleo depende de dos condiciones: la voluntad de trabajar y las decisiones de los empresarios. Sin embargo, la pandemia de COVID‐19 creó circunstancias especiales que afectaron negativamente a la percepción de las personas mayores trabajadoras. Las personas mayores son especialmente vulnerables a la enfermedad, lo que justifica la actuación del gobierno para protegerlas, pero al mismo tiempo provoca el resentimiento de los jóvenes. En julio y agosto de 2020 se realizó una encuesta en línea entre los ciudadanos de Hungría, Túnez y Uzbekistán. Esta investigación pretendía determinar el alcance general de la discriminación por edad durante la pandemia de COVID. Los encuestados debían poseer al menos un título universitario, es decir, ser potencialmente aptos para el puesto de director de recursos humanos. A pesar de la abundante literatura científica y de la propia experiencia de los autores, los resultados de la encuesta sólo revelaron bajos niveles de discriminación por razón de edad debido al llamado sesgo de deseabilidad social. A pesar de ello, las respuestas de los participantes reflejaron las características de la discriminación por razón de edad en relación con sus respectivos países y condiciones de vida. Las pequeñas variaciones en las respuestas también fueron suficientes para proporcionar información útil. ABSTRACT

With the acceleration of technological change and globalization, companies face increasing environmental uncertainty and complexity. The COVID-19 pandemic has severely damaged the global supply chain and aggravated the operational risks of supply chains. Industry and academia have conducted studies on the construction of resilient and integrated supply chains, and to date a bulk of empirical literature has already been accumulated. A notable feature of existing literature is the heterogeneity in the characterization of the relationship between supply chain resilience, supply chain integration, and supply chain performance. In this study meta-analysis and structural equation modeling (MASEM) methods are integrated to construct a theoretical framework of supply chain resilience, supply chain integration, and supply chain performance. 45 empirical studies (73 effect size data, 2092 samples) are selected from 10,623 papers published over the years 2013 to 2021 to explore the transmission mechanisms, the role of mediator variable, and boundary conditions of the relationship between supply chain resilience and supply chain performance. The results show that supply chain resilience can promote supply chain performance. Moreover, supply chain integration (supplier integration, internal integration, and customer integration) plays a partial mediating role for the impact of supply chain resilience on supply chain performance. Situations and measurement factors such as industry type, national culture (power distance), sampling area, and logistics performance have a certain impact on the relationship, and the usage of different indicators may lead to marked differences in conclusions regarding the relationship. By extracting the conclusions of existing empirical studies, this study proposes new insights into the mechanism of action of supply chain resilience, supply chain integration, and supply chain performance and provides specific suggestions for future supply chain management. ABSTRACT

Based on the self-transcendence theory and immaturity-maturity theory, this study empirically tested the influence of female professional dancers' workplace spirituality on positive psychological capital, team trust, and self-esteem. The subjects of this study were female professional dancers. We conducted the surveys in two countries—the United States and the United Kingdom—and ultimately obtained 441 samples. To test the hypotheses, we performed a structural equation model analysis using three statistical programs: SmartPLS, GSCA Pro, and jamovi. (1) The workplace spirituality of female professional dancers showed a statistically significant positive influence on positive psychological capital, team trust, and self-esteem. (2) The positive psychological capital of female professional dancers showed a statistically significant positive influence on team trust and self-esteem. (3) The team trust of female professional dancers showed a statistically significant positive influence on self-esteem (except when using jamovi). This study found that fostering workplace spirituality was paramount for female professional dancers in an organization. Accordingly, we outlined four recommendations for the organizations: (1) convey the importance of the organization's mission and values to organizational members;(2) increase each organizational member's decision-making and autonomy;(3) encourage members to cooperate while working in the domains of their specific positions;and (4) discourage members from neglecting their organizational responsibilities and resorting to egoism.

Air traffic bans in response to the spread of the coronavirus have changed the sound situation of urban areas around airports. This study aimed to investigate the effect of this unprecedented event on the community response to noise before and after the international flight operation at Tan Son Nhat Airport (TSN) in March 2020. The "before" survey was conducted in August 2019, and the two "after" surveys were conducted in June and September 2020. Structural equation models (SEMs) for noise annoyance and insomnia were developed by linking the questionnaire items of the social surveys. The first effort aimed to achieve a common model of noise annoyance and insomnia, corresponding to the situation before and after the change, respectively. Approximately, 1200 responses were obtained from surveys conducted in 12 residential areas around TSN in 2019 and 2020. The average daily flight numbers observed in August 2019 during the two surveys conducted in 2020 were 728, 413, and 299, respectively. The sound pressure levels of the 12 sites around TSN decreased from 45-81 dB (mean = 64, SD = 9.8) in 2019 to 41-76 dB (mean = 60, SD = 9.8) and 41-73 dB (mean = 59, SD = 9.3) in June and September 2020, respectively. The SEM indicated that the residents' health was related to increased annoyance and insomnia.

ABSTRACT

The construction supply chain has many stakeholders and complex and diverse information, which cause various information exchange problems that diminish project management efficiency. Thus, information collaboration is an important factor in the construction supply chain. This study aims to improve the efficiency of project management by analyzing the factors hindering information collaboration in the construction supply chain in order to determine their internal influencing mechanisms. The relevant data of 281 construction employees is collected by questionnaire survey. The relationship among stakeholders (SH), information technology (IT), external stability mechanism (ESM), and information collaboration is then quantitatively evaluated based on the structural equation model (SEM). The results show that stakeholders, information technology, and the external stability mechanism have an influence on information collaboration, while stakeholders do not have a significant influence. Information technology and the external stability mechanism significantly influence information collaboration and provide a mediation role between stakeholders and information collaboration. The innovation of this work is the quantification of information collaboration influencing factors in the construction supply chain and the analysis of its potential path relationship according to the mediating effect test. Its theoretical contribution is to address the research gap in construction supply chain information collaboration and expand the research scope of construction project collaborative management regarding information collaboration. Finally, this work has a practical contribution by providing suggestions for improving the efficiency of building supply information collaboration.

ABSTRACT

An acyclic model, often depicted as a directed acyclic graph (DAG), has been widely employed to represent directional causal relations among collected nodes. In this article, we propose an efficient method to learn linear non-Gaussian DAG in high dimensional cases, where the noises can be of any continuous non-Gaussian distribution. The proposed method leverages the concept of topological layer to facilitate the DAG learning, and its theoretical justification in terms of exact DAG recovery is also established under mild conditions. Particularly, we show that the topological layers can be exactly reconstructed in a bottom-up fashion, and the parent-child relations among nodes can also be consistently established. The established asymptotic DAG recovery is in sharp contrast to that of many existing learning methods assuming parental faithfulness or ordered noise variances. The advantage of the proposed method is also supported by the numerical comparison against some popular competitors in various simulated examples as well as a real application on the global spread of COVID-19. ©2022 Ruixuan Zhao, Xin He, and Junhui Wang.

ABSTRACT

With the impact of the novel coronavirus on the global economy, the role of live e-commerce as an engine to drive economic and social development has become more and more prominent. In order to further promote the positive development of Taobao Live platform, this article uses SOR theory, multi-dimensional factors such as "people, goods and venues"as stimulus variables, introduces perceived value and perceived risk as mediating variables, and demographic characteristics as moderating variables to construct a model of consumers' purchase intention on Taobao Live e-commerce platform and put forward corresponding hypotheses, and uses SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 24.0 to analyse 223 questionnaires collected to study the influencing factors of consumers' purchase intention and provide corresponding suggestions. The study shows that: consumer perceived value and perceived risk have significant effects on consumer purchase intention;anchor professionalism, consumer herd mentality and situational factors have significant effects on consumer perceived value;anchor professionalism, consumer impulsive traits and herd mentality have significant effects on consumer perceived risk;some demographic characteristics play a moderating role in the process of perceived value and perceived risk on consumer purchase intention. © 2022 ACM.
